Directionality is a proven method for improving speech understanding in the presence of background noise.  A directional system’s ability to improve speech understanding in noise, often represented as an AI-DI (Articulation Index Weighted Directivity Index) number, varies based on the configuration of the directional polar pattern.

Traditionally, directional hearing aids have provided only a single directional program, and often the polar pattern was not adjustable by the hearing care professional. With Innova, the hearing aid can be programmed with up to four directional programs, using any combination of three available polar patterns, to provide the patient with the most benefit for different listening environments.
