 Input / Output Functions

S.M.A.R.T. Technology’s I/O functions are designed to emphasize speech and preserve listening comfort for each individual patient.  Key to this design is the use of the Gain Dependent Expansion algorithm to determine the best configuration of the Expansion and Linear segments based on the patient’s hearing loss.

1. Expansion Segment — Reduces the gain for low intensity background signals

2.Linear Segment — Provides maximum gain for important soft speech cues while limiting the feedback associated with high gain applied to low intensity signals

3.WDRC Segment — Compensates for the reduced dynamic range of hearing associated with a sensorineural hearing loss, with the most gain applied to desireable signals like conversational speech

4.Limiting Segment — Provides maximum output limiting with low distortion
